Cocoa trees.
Traditionally propagation of Cacao is done by seed and vegetative propagation: cuttings and graftings. In recent years scientists have explored cacao propagation by tissue culture. Efforts to improve the crops were mainly done by somatic embryogenesis.
Our research team developed a new protocol for propagation that is economically interesting but most importantly produces 100% uniform and true to type plants.
The process is started by primary somatic embryogenesis from flower parts of selected disease-free elite lines, followed by axillary in vitro propagation. Finally, we scale up production in the greenhouse by making cuttings from the orthotropic micro-propagated shoots.
Our three-step process is the safest way to produce vigorously growing and healthy True to type Cacao plants.
